YAARIYAN COLLECTS 25 CRORES

YAARIYAN COLLECTS 25 CRORES

Divya Kumar Khosla's debut directorial movie, Yaariyan has managed to collect a decent revenue at the box office.

Made on a low budget and with all new comers, the movie has collected 25 crores till date. Being a youth centric film has worked in the advantage of the venture and the production house’s typical formula of focusing single mindedly on their target audience has helped them dig gold with this film.

Despite being criticized by critics unanimously, the film has already covered its investment.

WATCH THE SONG ‘MAHI VE’ FROM ‘HIGHWAY’

After ‘Patakha Guddi’, here’s the second song ‘Mahi Ve’ from ‘Highway’. The music of the track is quite similar to the song ‘Tum Ho’ from ‘Rockstar’. A.R Rahman has sung the song well and his voice suites the number. The setting of the song is wonderful and Imtiaz Ali has captured the locations fantastically.

Well, once again in the song the stealer is Alia Bhatt, she is looking gorgeous. In this song, even Randeep Hooda is given a good scope and the actor is looking rough and tough. Though, an unusual pairing, Randeep & Alia’s chemistry seems to be good.

‘Highway’ will be releasing on 21st February 2014.

COMEDY NIGHTS WITH KAPIL: SALMAN KHAN GOES ROFL! VIEW PICS!

COMEDY NIGHTS WITH KAPIL: SALMAN KHAN GOES ROFL! VIEW PICS!

The Dabangg Khan was on the sets of Kapil Sharma’s popular comedy show to promote his upcoming film Jai Ho

Salman Khan was surely missed on the silver screen last year as the superstar didn’t have a single release in 2013. But hey, the Dabangg Khan is back, and he is all set to kick-start 2014 in style.
Salman’s upcoming film Jai Ho, which stars new comer Daisy Shah as the female lead is slated to release on January 24 and he has already started promoting his film.
Recently Sallu along with his co-star Daisy and brother director Sohail Khan, who also is the director of Jai Ho. shot an episode of Kapil Sharma’s popular comedy show Comedy Nights With Kapil. And looking at the pictures, it’s quite evident that the Dabangg Khan had one helluva time. SK just couldn’t control his laughter and is seen going all LOL, ROFL, LMAO and what not. That’s not all. Salman seems to be so happy to be that he is seen giving jaadoo ki jhappis to everyone, especially the ladies – everyone from Sumona Chakravarti to Shweta Tiwari were lucky girls who got a warm bear hug from the Jai Hostar. The episode of funny ha ha series featuring Salman will not only having the flavour of comedy, but it will also have a tadka of romance and some naach-gaana it seems.
Honestly, even we just couldn’t control our laughter after looking these pictures. We don’t know what will happen when the episode will be aired!

KAPIL SHARMA CASE: WHY SO SERIOUS, ASK COMEDIANS

KAPIL SHARMA CASE: WHY SO SERIOUS, ASK COMEDIANS

After the recent case filed against Kapil Sharma, for misrepresentation of women, stand- up comedians react and say that the Indian audience needs to lighten up

Recently, a complaint was filed against comedian Kapil Sharma's show Comedy Nights With Kapil. Some women activists in Maharashtra thought that his jokes were offensive to pregnant women. Purportedly, Sharma joked about how a road full of potholes can help a poor man with a pregnant wife, as once they hit a big pothole, delivery would inevitably happen. While the women's NGOs seek legal redress, comedians in the capital say that if everybody who is made fun of by a comedian starts taking offence, then there can be no comedy. The intention behind the joke, they say, is what counts. We spoke with some popular stand-up comedians and here's what they said:

"The comedians I have worked with so far have become very careful about women-related jokes. They have become conscious and don't want to sound misogynistic or anti-feminist. These days, society is at least starting to make the right noises. Sensitivities have increased, but we all need to relax a little. We need to take comedy with a pinch of salt. With his Dadi and Palak, he (Kapil) can do the sort of comedy where he can kick them on their butts, but with his bua, he can't. So that's the advantage of cross-dressing. Plus, stereotypes are born out of truth. Punjabis are loud. Bengalis are lazy. And we laugh because we recognize the truth in them. Comedy is an exaggeration of the truth, but there is a fine line. For instance, rape jokes have never been funny and they will never be funny. But there's a whole bunch of people jinka job profile hi hai bura manna. You can't put so many shackles on comedy. Warna main bolti hun main pravachan karke, apna naam bolkar, stage se utar jaungi!"
- Neeti Palta, Delhi-based stand-up comedian

"I have never been a big fan of Kapil Sharma but I am a respecter of his work. He makes my nana laugh. He is the positive part of my grandfather's evening... comedy v/s women will always be an issue. Comedy and women don't seem to mix of late. And I really want to find a middle ground. It is not like he is a guy constantly out to offend. If it were Honey Singh, I would have still understood. But that said, you can't take people's right to be offended. But, again, people need to grow the f*** up. I think the comedians are going to have to take precautionary steps because women are not going to come around soon. If someone needs to be checked, it's probably the standard and practices guy of the show, not the comedian. In our country, people even censor the word sex. That's a little too far. I will be very disappointed if he (Kapil Sharma) loses money on this. Does the country have no sense of humour? National integration is going to become a major issue if every group starts having a problem with every joke. I guess it is a challenge to the comedians as well to be funny without being offensive. And that's probably why they don't like it, because it makes them work harder."
-
Raghav Mandawa, Delhi-based stand-up comedian

"I went to Canada and my relatives were like, 'chal, Kapil Sharma dekhte hain.' Offence is not given, offence is taken. Comedy is generally a very edgy business. And gender has always been an issue. It has to be funny but not every joke is written for everyone. I don't do edgy comedy - my style is very clean, rounded and happy. But comedy is a very hit-and-run situation, even after 100 or 1000 years of experience, the only way to find out whether a joke is funny, is to take it on stage. I think everybody needs to lighten up. They need to realize it is all said in jest. It is a learning experience for both the comedian and the audience. " -
Abish Matthew, Delhi-based stand-up comedian

"Yaar 6-7 log toh hai jo rulane wale daily soaps ke beech mein hassane ka try kar rahe hain. Mujhe nahi pata hua kya hai, par main kehna chahungi ki agar Kapil bhai ke muh se koi aisi waisi baat nikal gayi hai, toh hurt toh nahi karna chaha hoga. Mere toh woh guru hain, mujhecollege mein aakar sikhate the, toh unki taraf se main maafi maang leti hun. Mujhe toh lagta tha ki ladkiyan aajkal bahut mast ho gayi hain. Main kahungi ki 2014 mein, aap sab bilkul cool ho jaiye. Gussa chhodo, pakore shakore banao - bahut thand hai. Humara comedy toh ek mixed fruit platter ki tarah hai. Aapko jo bhi fruit passand hai, jiska act passand hai, woh dekho - beech mein Uttaran shuttarn dekh lo"
- Bharti, TV comedian

"Sometimes it is very difficult to do comedy and not be crude. Crudeness and vulgarity is the easiest way to be funny. But in India, at a lot of places, vulgarity is curbed. And I always believe that if you don't like watching the show, then don't. It's humour, it's comedy - nothing is to be taken seriously. Even serious shows are for entertainment. The kind of comedy I am doing (in FIR) is 'veg' comedy, because it is a family oriented channel... but haan joh bhi hai, limit mein hona chahiye. That said, you can't control comedy, it's all for entertainment" -
Aamir Ali, actor

SHRUTI HAASAN WALKS OUT OF DAD KAMAL HAASAN'S FILM

News has it that Shruti Haasan, who recently underwent a surgery for appendicitis, has apparently walked out of her father's next film titled 'Uthama Villain' due to lack of dates.

Kamal Haasan said, "Yes, our dates didn't work out. But in a way it's good. It's too early for Shruti and I to share screen space together. Too much pressure on both of us. Maybe later when she has more experience. We've shortlisted three new girls for my daughter's role and some new actors for my son's role. There is so much acting talent around. But most of us like to be in our comfort zone, I guess."

Post surgery Shruti has resumed work and is now working for the Akshay Kumar-starrer "Gabbar".

YAARIYAN MOVIE REVIEW: THIS ONE MAY APPEAL TO COLLEGEGOERS; REST, STAY AWAY!

YAARIYAN MOVIE REVIEW: THIS ONE MAY APPEAL TO COLLEGEGOERS; REST, STAY AWAY!

For the longest time I haven’t been subjected to a film that is so mind-numbing. Divya Khosla Kumar’s Yaariyan will remind you a bit of Main Hoon Na and Student of The Year. But sadly, this college rom-com is no match to Farah Khan and Karan Johar’s hit films

Divya Khosla Kumar’s directorial debut Yaariyan stars Himansh Kholi, Serah Singh, Rakul Preet Singh, Nicole Faria, Gulshan Grover and Deepti Naval. The movie revolves around four college friends who are pretty much good for nothing. Lakshya (Himansh) is desperate to experience his first kiss, but something goes wrong every time he aims to get it. What’s bizarre is that the entire college is gung-ho about Himansh’s first kiss. It doesn’t end there, with the youngsters. Even the teachers suffer from some hormonal locha and cannot keep their hands off each other. I am glad that I haven’t come across any such college in my life! The story shifts from the touchy mode to sports, Australia, racial attacks, patriotism and lots of cleavage popping out of the screen into your face. Divya tries to incorporate too many issues into one plot. That’s why Yaariyan failed to make any impact on me. Maybe collegegoers won’t mind watching a film that hardly makes sense. After all, class bunk marke thodi na koi meaningful picture dekhne jayega!

What’s good about Yaariyan?

Hands down it has to be the music and then the cinematography. The songs are peppy and colourful and will certainly cheer you up every time you regret walking into the theatre. And Yo Yo Honey Singh’s special number is delicious icing on the cake. As for the cinematography – the film has been shot in virgin and unexplored parts of Darjeeling and in Australia. The locales are beautiful and will make you go ‘wow’. There is a motorcycle and bicycle race scene that has been shot brilliantly. Also, the first half is tolerable thanks to some good comic punches. Performance wise, Himansh Kholi is decent and the rest are just okay.

What’s bad about Yaariyan?

The most important element – the script! There is too much happening at one point and then suddenly there is nothing happening at all beyond the bosom popping. Brilliant actors like Deepti Naval and Gulshan Grover are wasted. Also, newbie Himansh Kholi needs to work on his ever-smiling face. He flashes his million dollar grin in every frame, which soon gets very, very irritating.

Verdict

Watch Yaariyan only if you are bored to death. Or if you’re in college and your hormones are driving you crazy. Everyone else should give this one a miss – you will thank us later.
